DeathCare Monday

And all the playing’s stopped in the playground now
She wants to play with the toys a while
And school’s out early and soon we’ll be learning
That the lesson today is how to die

-I Don’t Like Mondays, The Boomtown Rats

Yep. I was hoping for a nice relaxing weekend for a change. By this morning I was missing another few millimeters of tooth enamel. It turns out that instead of spending the weekend counting the money the lobbyists left in the dead-drops, Speaker “No-Grip” Pelosi and her partners in crime pass the DeathCare legislation in the House.

I couldn’t be more appalled.

The whole thing was a series of back-room deals designed to placate lobbyists and screw the average American. From the Stupid Stupak Amendment to gain the votes of pro-lifers (which No-Grip will have her lapdog Harry Reid drop in the Senate version to placate the pro-choicers) to the last minute add-ons which no one had a chance to read and took the bill soaring over 2000 pages.

As the legislation is being dissected, more and more disturbing details are coming to light. Death panels are back. Gatekeepers, who will determine what treatments you will be approved for, who don’t even have to be doctors are in. Severe penalties for those who don’t take part in the system. Affirmative action is back with a vengeance, with mandates to institutions of higher learning for, “Ethnic and racial preferences” in medical education…instead of choosing the people with the best aptitude for medicine with no preference to color or creed.

One can only hope that it will flame out in the Senate, but with all the promises, cajoling, threats and out and out subornment that went on in the lower house, I can’t imagine it will be one whit better in the upper chamber.

The endarkenment continues. And if there’s any medical procedure you may need anytime soon, you may want to step up your pace a little bit.
